2No Fun   Sep 30, 2008
This game is no fun because of everything in it!The races are boring, the music is weird, and you do the same thing in every race...No creativity in it. I recommend you get a different racing game like Need for Speed(any of them are good) or Burnout(any of them also). Those are some excellent racing games. ;)

5Almost perfect! 9.5/10  Nov 13, 2007
I've played a couple of the previous versions of WipeOut and have always been impressed by this series, but the latest version for PSP is exceptional!

The handling of the car is terrific; you can use the D-pad or analog stick for subtle taps, and the shoulder triggers work airbrakes for harder, tighter steering.

The graphics look beautiful, almost jewel-like, and the selection of music works well with this face-paced game.

You know a racing game is great when you find yourself leaning your body left and right as you swoop through the curves.

The only caveat I've found is that apparently there are online downloads (extra courses, cars, etc.) available at the developer's web-site, but when I try on numerous occasions to download it times out. I suspect it's because the downloads are only available to certain countries, and my country is not one.

All in all, I rate WipeOut Pure a 9.5 out of 10. Fantastic!

5pure fun!  Jun 12, 2007
This game is great. Awesome graphics, sound, gameplay, and controls. Great options for customizing your race profile and keeping track of all your times on different tracks. Perfect for a handheld like the PSP.

5A Standard-Setting Game  May 30, 2007
With a game like this, it's easy to see how much expectation there was for the PSP. Killer graphics (even by today's standards), great sound (if you like the techno beats from the PS version), great, responsive gameplay and strategy all wrapped up in a tiny silver disc! It even has online features and playing with friends is a blast! That most PSP games are pathetic ports of PS1 games and crappy movie adaptations is disappointing in the face of games like this. It's almost like Sony said, "OK guys, HERE'S how you make a PSP game," and then the developers promptly ignored them!!!

First off, the graphics are gorgeous. Futuristic and smooth. The music is appropriate and very techno. The controls are crisp and mastering the airbrake system on each racer is the key to victory...since hamfisted handling WILL result in eating wall and losing races. There is a certain strategy to hitting boost points and picking up weapons for use against others or for a quick energy boost. You can't just mash the button and ride a rail all the way to the finish line; you have to be involved and jink/dodge/boost/draft/ram your way in!

I got this game used for $9.99 and it's more fun than the new crop of PSP games coming out. I highly recommend it; even if you get frustrated racing against others, you can do time trials or free racing as a quick diversion and play against yourself.

Can't go wrong here. AWESOME game. WHERE'S WIPEOUT 2?

3Fast n' fun  Apr 13, 2007
I dig the Wipeout games, they're about the only racers I bother to play anymore. This one is no exception. The play control, once you get used to being on a PSP, is pretty great, the graphics are amazing (I couldn't believe I was playing a portable system @ first). There are not as many levels as there could be, but some of the levels are the most fun I have encountered in any racer outside of the arcade. The only complaint I have, is that there does not appear to be an option to upgrade your ships. To me that was one of the best features of the Wipeout series, adding even more replay value. Then again I have not yet beaten the game entirely, and perhaps it is an option I have not unlocked yet. Whatever the case, the game goes for pretty cheap (I paid $10) and is well worth the money by my standards. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes fast paced games who owns a PSP.
